Some Things Shouldn’t Be This WayWe had a decent 4th of July. It is not one to put in the books but one to improve from. It was a rough one due to Legg-Calve Perthes Disease. The good news is Christopher won third place in the bike parade in our neighborhood. I was so proud of him. We worked countless hours decorating his bike and his little brother’s. The bad news is the prize was a $5 Wal-Mart card. Christopher astutely pointed out that it didn’t cover our cost of the decorating supplies. It was still cool though. He rode his bike and walked through the pain.
Before the fireworks, perthes turned its ugly head to remind us how serious this condition can be. We went to a local mall not five minutes from our house since fireworks were banned due to the drought. Christopher walked approximately 75 feet and then his left hip gave out on him. He started trying to walk on his tip-toes but he couldn’t. He parked himself on a 4 ft flower pot while we tried to figure out what to do. We haven’t needed his wheelchair in awhile so we were not prepared. Plus, the mall didn’t have any wheelchairs to borrow. We ended up setting up the lawn chairs 10 ft from where Christopher was sitting and we enjoyed the beautiful display. It was worth the hassle.
We feel fortunate to live in the land of the free and the brave. Let Freedom ring!
