West Palm Beach
We had a uneventful flight to West Palm Beach and Christopher’s pain level was low for the first time in WEEKS! If you don’t believe in the power of prayer, then you should. Our son has endured some serious pain levels the past month and now he is pain free!!!
I cannot even begin the thank everyone for their prayers. We have so many people lifting him up in prayer and we can feel them. This journey has been too long and I feel that God will heal Christopher completely this time. He has endured 7 surgeries to date and this makes #8. I have a peace that I have never experienced with the others. I wished I could share my peace and serenity that only comes from God above! He’s an awesome God!!!
It was a very long day with pre-op appointments. The Child Life Specialists gave us a tour around the hospital, we met many of the medical team that will be with Christopher tomorrow and his nursing staff. I’m impressed by what I have seen so far. The only part I didn’t like was that only one parent can stay the night. My hubby knows that means I will be staying. 🙂
We were thrown a curve ball today. Christopher may have a head reduction osteotomy revision (we didn’t even know this was possible) or a valgus osteotomy or a reshaping osteotomy. We do know that the seven screws will come out as well as the fake ligament, then a osteotomy, then the external fixator for 4 months (maybe less). Dr. Paley will not know until he gets in there. We are truly blessed to have such an amazing surgeon and the Paley Institute is top-notch!
Christopher goes in tomorrow at 11:30am ET and the surgery will last anywhere from five hours to eight hours. It’s going to be another long day.
We want to thank our earth angel, Dominic, for all the support and love you have shown us over the years. We can only inspire to be like you, our good brother in Christ. Thank you for being Christopher’s hero!!! He wears your necklace every day. It’s a special bond that will never be broken.
Giannela and Jennifer are our other Earth Angels. Thank you for helping us make the clothes to go around the external fixator. Christopher wouldn’t have clothes without you! Your friendships mean the world to me! Love you both so much!
Amy, Lauren and Pat – thank you for being our support and walking along beside us on this journey. One day, we are going to look back and say ‘remember when the kids had Perthes? It was difficult but not impossible.’ I look forward to that day! We are so fortunate to have you in our lives.
Thank you to all of our friends and family that continue to pray for Christopher after this very long journey. Without your prayers, we wouldn’t have made it.
You can send Christopher a note of encouragement or well wishes while in the hospital. Here’s the link – http://www.stmarysmc.com/en-US/cwsapps/CheerCards/Default.aspx?language=en-US .
I’ll update the blog tomorrow when he gets out of surgery. Thank you for the prayers and keep them coming! God is good all the time!
